Assessment of physico-chemical parameters of water in four places in Pulankurichi of Sivagangai district was carried out. Water samples from one bore-well and three open-ponds were collected and analysed. The chemical quality was compared with the drinking water quality standards. Several parameters like pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, chloride, sulphate, total hardness, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen and BOD were analysed. The results of the study indicate that groundwater quality in the study area is suitable for drinking purpose. Keywords

Assessment of physico-chemical parameters of water at six places in Madurai were carried out. Five samples were taken from bore well, and one from Corporation pipe supply. The chemical quality was compared with the drinking water quality standards. Several parameters like pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, chloride, sulphate, total hardness, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, and biochemical oxygen demand were analysed. The study indicates that bore well water except at site S3 is unfit for drinking. Corporation pipe supply water and bore well water sample of S3 can be used for drinking purpose after pretreatment. Keywords

Assessment of physico-chemical parameters of water in three places in and around Ponnamaravathy of Pudukkottai district was carried out. Water samples from borewells and open-pond were collected and analysed. The chemical quality was compared with the drinking water quality standards. Several parameters like pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, chloride, sulphate, total hardness, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen and biochemical oxygen demand were analysed. The results indicate that groundwater quality in the study area is not suitable for drinking, but the pond water can be used after pretreatment. Keywords

Physico-chemical quality of the groundwater samples of bore wells in and around Vriddhachalam of Cuddalore district is studied. Three samples, one from Vriddhachalam town, one from Erumanur village and the third one from M. Patti village were collected for the study. The parameters observed were pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, total alkalinity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, chloride, sulphate, sodium, potassium and fluoride. The results reveal that most of the physico-chemical parameters for the second and third samples have the values above the permissible limit, but below the excessive limit. Hence, they can be used for drinking purposes. The values of these parameters except TDS are above permissible limits and below excessive limit for the first sample. The TDS exceeds the excessive limit, hence, it has to be pretreated by reverse osmosis before drinking. Keywords

Tamil Nadu has a rich cultural heritage and has many temples which are not only places of worship but also places of historical importance. Many forms of cultural and social activities were once practiced. Now everything has been commercialized and these have now become places of exploitation of sentiments and religious values of people, and exploration of new possibilities for extortion of money. Temples have now turned places of pollution rather than peace. In many temples in Tamil Nadu, noise pollution has become a routine, not only in small temples, which are in villages, but also a routine affair in big and famous temples. Srirangam temple, an important temple famous for its sculptures and its presiding deity, is considered as the first 'Divya Desa' for vaishnavaites, and has been taken as an example in this study on noise pollution levels. The effect of noise pollution is analysed and its implications viewed. Remedial measures are also discussed.- Population Survey of Persons Using Lake Water around Ariyalur City
